You know what they say about steaks, shooting and summer: the best weekends usually involve all three—and preferably a little dirt under your boots.
On September 5, members of the Sellmark Prostaff gathered at the Sellmark Ranch for an overnight event packed with hunting, shooting, competition and an early look at some of the latest gear from Sellmark brands.
It was part Prostaff appreciation event, part product testing session and part friendly competition. In other words, it was a pretty good excuse to spend the weekend doing what brought many of them to the Prostaff program in the first place: getting outside, shooting, hunting and putting gear through its paces.

Competition on the Range
The range portion of the event gave the Prostaff plenty of chances to test their equipment, their skills and, in a few cases, their ability to keep a timer from ruining their day.
Pistol shooting included a timed drill built around a simulated hostage target, forcing shooters to balance speed with accuracy. Reload drills added another practical challenge, rewarding smooth weapon handling instead of simply mashing the gas and hoping for the best.
The group also took on a pistol-caliber carbine steel event that required shooters to engage targets from multiple positions. Competitors fired from standing, kneeling and prone, adding movement and positional shooting to the mix.
And because the ranch had plenty of room to work with, the group also stretched things out—way out.
Several attendees had the opportunity to shoot at one mile using Kevin Reese's Baby Orca chassis .300 Norma. The rifle was equipped with a 6.25-25x56 optic featuring a PRS reticle, giving shooters the chance to work at a distance far beyond the usual range session.
For some, the weekend meant chasing seconds on a timer. For others, it meant waiting on a mile-long flight path and listening for that satisfying ring of steel.
New Gear in the Field
The event also gave Prostaff members hands-on time with new and upcoming products from Sightmark and KJI.
Among the equipment available were the Sightmark Wraith 2 384 LRF and Wraith 2 640 LRF, giving attendees a chance to work with the newest additions to the Wraith family somewhere a little more useful than a conference room or trade-show booth.
The Sightmark Strikon VMP V2 also made an appearance alongside the Sightmark Latitude LRF Binoculars. Prostaff members could spend time with the new optics while shooting, moving around the ranch and generally giving them the kind of workout a product brochure cannot provide.
KJI equipment included the Pathfinder Ballhead and Field Table. The Field Table provides a compact tripod-mounted platform for supporting equipment in the field, while the Pathfinder Ballhead gives users an adjustable support option for field and shooting setups.
Early access is part of the job. Events like this let experienced hunters and shooters use upcoming equipment under realistic conditions, create content and provide feedback before those products reach a wider audience.
Instead of simply admiring new gear on a table, attendees got to shoot with it, carry it and use it where it was designed to be used. Much better than reading the box.
After Dark
Once the shooting competition wound down, attention shifted from steel targets to the ranch itself.
The group spent part of the weekend hunting hogs and coyotes, giving attendees another opportunity to put their fieldcraft and equipment to work. Several animals were taken during the event.
Night hunting also provided a natural proving ground for equipment such as the Wraith 2 thermal sights. A square range can tell you plenty about an optic, but hunting adds the variables that make things interesting: distance, movement, changing terrain and live animals that did not agree to stand still for a product demonstration.
For a group made up of experienced hunters, shooters and content creators, that kind of practical time in the field is hard to replace.
More Than a Range Day
The Sellmark Prostaff program brings together people from different corners of the shooting and outdoor communities, each with their own experience, specialties and audiences.
Events like the September gathering give everyone a chance to spend time together away from social media feeds, emails and product announcements. They can compare equipment, trade hunting stories, compete against one another and talk directly with the people developing the products they use.
The result is something a lot more useful—and a lot more fun—than a conventional corporate event.
Prostaff members leave with firsthand experience using new products. Sellmark gets feedback from people who regularly hunt, shoot and create outdoor content. Everyone gets the chance to improve their skills, make new content and enjoy a weekend at the ranch in the process.

There was competition. There was long-range shooting. There were hogs and coyotes to hunt. There was new gear to try and plenty of good food in between.
Basically, it was a pretty solid weekend.
